The title indicates that the book is about computer hard drives. Although the book describes “Hard Drive Back-Up” as something different, symbolically it is more. That is true of most of the book. How the characters interact, the strange acquaintances, and the facility they work in all provide food for thought.
The story is about people that come together to form a team to solve a problem presented by two strange men. The problem seems not that much out of the ordinary when the team starts but becomes cosmic in nature and “no” they are not going to save the world. The team bonds like no teams have in history to form a here-to-fore unimaginable service. Although heroically noble, was it the right thing to do? What are the conceivable consequences?
You’ll have to make up your own mind.
FYI, nearly all the technology mentioned in the book is in some form in existence and, that that is not, is attainable.
Dinosaurs were around for literally millions of years. How did they do that? It took an asteroid roughly ten kilometers (six miles) in diameter to put an end to them. No species much larger than a mouse has existed longer.
Although dinosaurs were probably not very intelligent, what can we learn from them?
What did they do that worked?
More importantly, what are we doing that does not work.
